The discovery of Fossil Ida only proves that we have found a new species that we previously didn't know existed. The discovery doesn't offer us any new information about God or His method for creating man. The philosopher on both sides of the argument would have trouble using this discovery to prove their point.

I believe that God, in his infinite wisdom, has many ways of "pruning" his garden. Who can observe the documented rapid modern genetic evolution of simple virus strains and not make the leap of imagination needed to comprehend the known millions of species on earth today or the millions more extinct species preserved in the rock record? Who can say that an extinct humanoid was not just a "working model" or a "first draft" of the people we are today? This question only deepens my curiosity and pushes out the confines of my appreciation for God.

Faith compels us to not allow evidence, or the lack thereof, to sway our belief. We should not be shaken by every new thing or every shifting wind. We can fill the universe with what we don't know, but we do know grace.

At the same time, our's is a reasonable faith, because evidence does exist to support the historicity of our belief system.  However, even this proof calls for us to believe in those things we cannot see and place our faith in what we do not know/understand.

I guess I have always appreciated Soren Kirkegaard when it comes todefining the importance of faith.  We use the sense God has given us to come as close as we can to physical proof of his existence.  And where the proof fails, we must take a "leap of faith."

I have gotten to the point where I tend not to question God's methods when it comes to the discussion of evolution vs. Creation.  I do have my thoughts on the subject.  However, more importantly, I have experienced God in my own life; therefore, I know that I am a unique creation.  I have experienced His hand leading me; therefore, I know that I am special to Him.  In many ways, this makes the discovery of Ida rather moot to me.  Someday, we will be able to ask Him, but I think on that day, we will have other things on our minds, because the "leap" will have been made real.
